Even though very few will admit it, but in reality there really are few who really know what their goals are in life. So many people not much different from you or me just waste a lot of precious times on jobs that go nowhere and offer little more than a paycheck to get by on. But if you are person that is just starting in life, someone that has yet to join the large group of people who have just let life pass by, there is still hope for you to find your life goals so that you can do what you love to do. This takes work, time and patience.
The first thing you need to try and do is to figure out what your true passions in life are. Start thinking about all of the things that you really enjoy and could spend hours on regardless of the time it takes for them. Write these things down on a piece of paper. Don't try to over think it, this is just brainstorming right now.
Whatever you do, don't think that some of the things that you have a passion for is frivolous. If you love to scrapbook, or love to knit or love to shop, it doesn't matter, write it down on your list. Also if you have interests you've never tried before make sure to include those on the list as well.
Then think about what might be the perfect dream job or the perfect outcome for a certain situation in your life. You can then look at your list and see if there are things on it that could lead you to your ideal career. For example if you really love to scrapbook, why not consider opening up a shop online or offline that sells all the things that people need to make their own scrapbooks with.
Once you come up with a goal or goals now it's time to write out a plan for it. From the ones you've chosen think about which one or ones that you would really like to achieve the most. Your plan should include the goal, how long you think that it might take to reach the goal, what kind of steps you think you will need to take to achieve it and lastly are you going to enjoy the work that it's going to take to get you to reach that goal. The steps need to be concrete and not abstract in order for the plan to work.
Then you need to figure out how you will accomplish the plan with the skills that you currently have. You may need to add a few new skills in order to finish the plan, which could mean that you may have to take a few classes or even do volunteer work that might relate to your goal. You need to make sure that whatever the steps are on your plan that it's going to be enjoyable, if not, you won't reach your goal.
Set up what is called a “vision board”. This can be made of poster board or done on a cork bulletin board. You should put pictures or items on it that represent your goals. Put pictures of the things you have to do to achieve the goal and keep this in a place where you can see it on a daily board. This will help to keep your goal and the plan fresh in your mind each day.
You need to be realistic and honest with yourself when it comes to your goals. It takes a lot of dedication and patience to reach your goals and if you set unrealistic goals for your life you will find that you more than likely get discouraged before you are even half way there.
You also need to be willing to be flexible in case things don't look like they are going to work out. Be ready to revise your goal in whatever fashion you can so that you can at least obtain part of the original goal without you feeling like you failed.
